Last Saturday I learned that Castle Williams on Governor's Island, New York, was built after the revolutionary war to defend the city against another attack by the British...who had occupied the city during the war. The castle successfully diverted British attention on NYC during the war of 1812, and in that way never saw battle. Today, the Park Service wants to make it a history and recreation center using stimulus funds...and some people want to use the round inside to make a new Globe Theater...
either way, the Park Service gives fantastic little tours on Governor's Island!
